A stray from a shelter, Shadow is an energetic two year old male Golden Retriever with a very special talent; he can escape out of almost any yard by jumping over fences as high as six feet tall. For this reason, Shadow will need to find a forever home that will be willing to keep him leashed or on a lead at all times. Shadow loves to play and swim and would love a strong-willed family that would take the time to work with him.
Shadow is very good with children, but not with other pets. Although Shadow exhibits good social skills at the Dog Park, he is highly protective one-on-one at and around the home. He probably would do better in a single pet environment or at the least, a home without any cats.
Currently, Shadow resides near Aurora Illinois (just West of Chicago) with his foster family, Bill and Linda Wade. He came to the Wade family in June of 2007 via the As Good as Gold organization which cares for abandoned and stray Golden Retrievers in Northern Illinois. During Shadow's short stay, he has developed a few manners and can obey simple commands; sit, stay, come.

A healthy and strong Golden Retriever
Daily routines consist of brisk walks and runs. We need a bike to keep up with Shadow! He is very healthy, a lean 80 pounds ... and can run like the wind.
Shadow, like other Golden Retrievers, is displaying natural hunting abilities. He has very keen eyesight and hearing. He would likely be a very good bird dog with his natural ability to seek out game. He definitely likes to chase after squirrels; blowing leaves seem to be a source of amusement for him too.
